Peter O’Toole, who had to fake joy for other’s success more than any man in history, has died at the age of 81. Oscar’s bridesmaid, O’Toole lost for Lawrence of Arabia (1962 - Gregory Peck), Becket (1964 - Rex Harrison), The Lion in Winter (1968 - Cliff Robertson), Goodbye, Mr. Chips (1969 - John Wayne), The Ruling Class (1972 - Marlon Brando), The Stunt Man (1980 - Robert De Niro), My Favorite Year (1982 - Ben Kingsley) and Venus (2006 - Forest Whitaker). Among his lovely parting gifts, four Golden Globes, a BAFTA, an Emmy, and an Honorary Academy Award in 2003. After his first 5 Oscar losses, his passive aggressive approach was to appear in Club Paradise, Caligula, King Ralph and Supergirl. He was also renowned as a stage actor, prodigious drunk and as food critic turned restaurant patron Anton Ego in Ratatouille.
